Big news for visitors headed to Lake Martin this year, as Lake Martin’s first brewery will be opening soon!
Here around Lake Martin, we have alot of talented locals, and we like to showcase those talents and welcome our visitors to be a part of the local vibe as well. On our Lakin’ Like a Local series, we have several locals that share their favorite things to do in the area-and give you the inside tips. We have many great things to do, but one thing that our area has lacked is a true brewery experience. Sure, you can head out to any of the local hotspots around the lake during the summer to grab a cold one, or hit up any of the great spots in downtown Alexander city or Dadeville, but we didn’t have a true experience of local beer being brewed in our area-until now…….
The Beers And Food Of Lake Martin Brewing
Lake Martin Brewing is tentatively scheduled to open this spring in downtown Alexander City. Don’t think of this as a bar though. This is a place for beer afficionados to gather, taste, and appreciate unique small batch beers that are made in Alexander City by a local brewer that has put his heart and soul into each delicious sip you enjoy. Don’t know alot about beer? That’s ok too! They will be brewing at least 12 beers locally, and will have other taps that host guest beers. They will even be brewing a locally made root beer, so there is something for everyone to enjoy-even the kiddos. Lake Martin Brewing is being designed to be a place that welcomes families. Even the furry children are welcome! This will be a great addition to the pet friendly places around Lake Martin where you can take Fido along for the fun too!
And while the beer will be the star of the show, we would be remiss to not tell you about the yummy food they will be cooking up as well. With craft beer comes craft food. Things like gourmet tapas and neapolitan pizza have already made their way onto the menu, and will give another great layer of diversity to the already awesome food scene of downtown Alexander City.
Other Cool Things About Lake Martin Brewing
One thing we really love about this new hotspot coming to Alexander City, is that not only is it contributing to the local vibe with locally made beer, but it is also bringing in the historical significance of the city as well. The building that will house the brewery was built in 1939. It served as Alex City’s post office at that time, and was built as a part of Roosevelt’s New Deal to bring the US out of the depression. The historic building brings a really cool feel to the ambiance of the brewery, and adds to the local story behind it.
Another great thing that is celebrating our local culture of the Lake Martin area will be the names of the beers themselves. While we don’t know all of the names yet, what we can tell you is that the names will follow a Lake Martin theme. I personally can’t wait for the unveiling of the names!
We around the Lake Martin area also love celebrating! We celebrate anything around here, and are always looking for another reason to gather together and have fun. With the new brewery coming to town, we will have even more reasons to do that. I’m truly excited about their plans for things like Oktoberfest and St. Patrick’s Day. They will also have weekly ongoing events such as trivia and bingo.
About The Owners
The owners, Eddie and Jennifer Durrett, are very excited to be bringing Lake Martin Brewing to the area and said, “We realized that the community of Alex City was missing a variety of entertainment and dining options and hope to bring something new and exciting to the downtown area.” Jennifer is a former teacher, turned innkeeper. The couple purchased one of our area’s awesome bed and breakfasts a couple of years ago-Mistletoe Bough Bed and Breakfast. Eddie is a technology consultant turned beer brewer, after following his personal passion and appreciation of craft beverages. He said, “There are elements from many breweries that we have visited that we like. We’ve taken our favorite elements and created a unique mash up of what we would like to see and provide in downtown Alexander City.”
