Celebrate Camp Hill

May 30 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Edward Bell Career Tech Center

251 Martin Luther King Street
Camp Hill, AL 36850 United States

Saturday May 30th from 2-4 PM at Edward Bell Career Tech, come watch and listen to some of the same folks who collected Camp Hill history in images, stories, and song thirty years ago. With new voices joining in to record new songs. The elder stories, elder photos, and the children’s songs were preserved in the Smithsonian back then, and we anticipate the captures of the new songs and images from the 30th will be added to that collection. Larry Long, a Smithsonian Folkways recording artist led that effort then, and he is revisiting the folks here again. Come join in this effort sponsored by PACERS and The Camp Hill Chronicle newspaper. The gent in the right photo? Lewis Martin, Jr. one of the Sharecroppers’ Union members who was interviewed in the first event. That is serious history.
