James M. Scott Deadening Alpine Trail
The James M. Scott Deadening Alpine Trail is a 4.2-mile loop that is one of the more challenging trails CRATA has created but the most rewarding. It offers stunning views of Lake Martin, Tallapoosa River cliffs, and unique rock formations like the Needles Eye and Jasmine Bluff with views of Chimney Rock. A shorter 3.1-mile crossover route is available, and there’s also an emergency trail to the parking lot. The trail is especially beautiful in late April and early May when mountain laurel and rhododendron are in bloom.
WARNING: The James M. Scott Deadening Alpine Trail is not recommended for children under 12, and children ages 12 to 14 should be closely supervised. The trail has cliffs and bluffs without safety barriers, posing a risk of serious injury or death. While the trail is generally safe if stayed on, hiking involves inherent risks, and the land owner or trail association is not responsible for any accidents or injuries. Hike safely.
For this reason we have decided to exclude this trail from the hiking challenge. Hike at your own risk.
