February 2025 – Lake Martin Fishing Report

Water Level: 488ft 5 in
Surface Temperature:  53.00
Clarity:  Slightly Stained

Author: Shaye Baker

The winter time bite has been tough for the most part during December and January. Steady numbers of small bass have been caught on Ned rigs and other finesse tactics, but getting a quality bite over three pounds has been as tough to accomplish as ever on Lake Martin. A few tournament anglers have figured out how to consistently get these bigger bites, and they have set themselves apart from the competition.

The winter has also seen a few of the typical torrential downpours, the latest of which has the lake level skyrocketing at the moment. With just two weeks to go until plug day, the water has jumped up two and a half feet in the last forty-eight hours due to back-to-back heavy rains. This has floating debris scattered throughout the lake, and the river along with many creeks are blown out with muddy water.

Still, the fishing is about to heat up. Two weeks of abnormally warm temperatures to start February have had the water temps bouncing around in the fifties, and all the way up to the lower sixties in places. If this continues, the bass will be heading for the bed shortly.

You can expect them to be staging during the remainder of February, coming out of their deep water haunts and setting up shop closer to the areas where they’ll inevitably start to spawn later in March.

For the time being, look for rock in 10 to 14 feet of water when targeting spotted bass with jigs, Ned rigs, shallow crankbaits and jerk-baits. You can push even shallower to find largemouth with spinnerbaits, jigs and square-bills in 6 feet or less.
